Moscow: The Heart of Russia

Moscow, the historical capital of Russian Federation, has also been the center of government for the region during the times of the Soviet Union, the Russian Empire, and even the period of the Tsars and Muscovy monarchies dating back to fourteenth century. Europe's largest city has developed into an amazing metropolis with a wide variety of unique architectural design, educational opportunities, cultural events and attractions, and other treasures. Almost 10.5 million people call the 418 square miles home.

The medieval Kremlin became the well known symbol of Russia when Ivan the Great had the fortress remodeled and the city of Moscow exploded in growth around the capital building. Being the heart of the Russian Orthodox Church, it should come as no surprise that the Kremlin would contain a church. But six cathedrals and churches remain, including Ivan the Great's Church of Annunciation and the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael which houses the tombs of 46 Russian rulers. Besides being the center for religion, the Kremlin also housed most rulers of Russia; Russian Tsars were residents of the Great Kremlin Palace, and Senate Building is the formal home of the Russian presidents in modern day.

Culturally, Moscow is almost overwhelmingly packed with museums, churches, parks, art galleries, and historical sites like the former military parade ground of Red Square. Festivals, concerts, and sporting events can be found here and other places in the city. Theaters are abundant, and offer Russian ballet, operas, plays, and classical music concerts. Two circuses are also located in the city. If that's not enough to keep one busy, Moscow also offers a vibrant night life, with innumerable restaurants, clubs, and bars.

Moscow, while being considered a very expensive place to live, is home to the second highest number of "super wealthy" in the world, with only the United States having more billionaires. Moscow retains a large industrial population, including software developers, food, textile, and energy production, as well as jewelers, wineries, and a military helicopter plant.

The city of Moscow has over 170 square miles of large parks and gardens, which is quite considerable considering the large urban population. Whether Moscow is in your future for business, a cultural vacation, or an historical tour, you are guaranteed to find more than you ever imagined.
